The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force released a report Tuesday accusing Republicans of using homophobia to attract Black voters.
African American voters are credited with helping George W. Bush win the White House and Republicans to take control of both houses of Congress after the GOP reached out to Black voters concerned about same-sex marriage.
In the last election cycle the party kept a high profile at Black churches throughout the country often hitting on gay marriage in speeches to congregations.
The Task Force report examined the voting record of Republicans in Congress and found that despite a call to Blacks to rejoin "The Party of Lincoln" the GOP seldom supported issues important to African Americans.
