'Open season' on gay employees
Yesterday, Gov. Ernie Fletcher and others held a celebration for diversity throughout the commonwealth.

The Governor announced an executive order that would protect employees throughout various state agencies from discrimination. As it should be throughout our state's merit system, employees need to be judged on the merits of their work, not on who they are or what kind of political connections they have.

However, this executive order was not really necessary. We've had one in effect for almost three years now, but the one the Governor announced today changes the state policy in a key way: Sexual orientation is no longer covered.

On a day and at a celebration honoring diversity, the Governor and our commonwealth have taken a giant step back. We had a law that guaranteed fairness in employment. Now we have one that promotes discrimination.

3. "to say bigoted things about gay folk on campus."
I heard about that.
"YOU'RE DENYING ME MY RIGHT TO SPEW HATE AND MAKE OTHER STUDENTS FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE ON THEIR OWN CAMPUS!"
Clearly the hatemongers feel very enabled and empowered right now.

4. Kentucky--Unbridled Spirit
I said this on another thread about Kentucky marching (and being led) backwards. Unbridled Spirit is the latest state motto--and it's coming to mean spririt of intolerance, hatred, exclusion. Pfffft.

5. The whole South seems to be in a meltdown
Before they resume their discrimination, they need to realize that they are still fighting their reputation for slavery. Add "Deliverance" to that any you're looking at a region fast losing tourist appeal.
