GOP Bid To Shore Up Conservative Support With New Effort To Pass Anti-Gay
Amendment.

(Washington) Protection of marriage amendment? Check. Anti-flag burning legislation? Check. New abortion limits? Check.

Between now and the November elections, Republicans are penciling in plans to take action on social issues important to religious conservatives, the foundation of the GOP base, as they defend their congressional majority.

In a year where an unpopular war in Iraq has helped drive President Bush's approval ratings below 40%, core conservatives whose turnout in November is vital to the party want assurances that they are not being taken for granted.

"It seems like for only six months, every two years — right around election time — that we're even noticed," said Tom McClusky of the Family Research Council.

1. Yep. This bullshit hatemongering crap always comes around election time.
It's no accident that Frist fastracked this legislative hate crime in June...first week in June, the Senate will debate and vote on the "Marriage Protection Amendment". Just in time for November. Same old shit, indeed.

3. You'd think the fundies would realize they're just getting played
Every election year it's "GAYS!" "ABORTION!" "PUT GOD IN SCHOOLS!" (and now "ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS!"). But do they ever realize that with the Repugnantcans controling the White House and both houses of Congress (and much of the judicial system) that gay rights, abortion, etc., could have been outlawed already?

Dumb fundies! :silly:

4. Dick Cheney, you are a bad man. A very BAD man.
SHAME on you. Lynne Cheney, YOU, dear "mother", are a HYPOCRITE.

My feelings as the mother of a Lesbian daughter.

6. I, for one, couldn't be happier ...
... that they've chosen to go with this tack, yet again.

I keep picturing the guy who's job had been outsourced, whose unemployment ran out eons ago, whose savings are now gone, who has no health insurance, whose elderly parents' expensive prescription medication is no longer covered, who has just had to tell his child that he can't possibly afford to send him to college, that his Party's going to do right by him by ensuring the gay couple down the street can't legally get married.

I'm sure the aforementioned John Q. Republican is going to go right out and vote for the people who think flag-burning is the most pressing problem he's facing these days.

7. Expose these repukes as a bunch of frauds.
Turn the debate to the debacle in Iraq, Hurricane Katrina, outsourcing.
