CNN Anchor comes out!
FINALLY! I always 'knew' he was!

Thomas Roberts has come out of the closet. He tells his story on PlanetOut.com, but for some reason that link is not showing the story. Anyone have another link?

Here he is...

3. Wikipedia entry saying he's already lost his anchor spot:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Roberts_%28news_anchor%29

<snip>
On Friday September 8, 2006, CNN's anchor Thomas Roberts told the audience at the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association conference how proud he is of his male partner and how he has gradually come out at work over the years. Being a panel speaker at a gay journalists conference, he said, was the biggest step he took to really being out in public. He shared "When you hold something back, that's all everyone wants to know."

Two days later - Monday, September 11, 2006 - CNN Headline News announced that it would be eliminating Thomas Roberts' 4-6 p.m. ET newscast "in order to bolster its editorial resources elsewhere". Thomas Roberts and his co-anchor were said to be remaining at the cable news channel in as-yet-unspecified roles. To fill the time, two newscasts will be increased by an hour each.

:grr:

6. What's surprising
Is that I am surprised at this. Why? I continually misjudge the support of the GLBT community, I think because of the circles I run in. I don't know anyone who is anti-gay. Not one person.

Cable news giant CNN has donated $100,000 to an LGBT journalism organization to endow a scholarship for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students.

The National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) announced Thursday that the network's gift will support the Leroy F. Aarons Scholarship Award, which is named for NLGJA's founder, who died in 2004.

"This unprecedented gift is a milestone for NLGJA as the largest single gift from a media company to the organization," said Pamela Strother, NLGJA's executive director. "CNN has ensured that the Aarons Award will be fully funded and has provided a solid base to our endowment to allow us to grow our awards program to help even more deserving journalism students."

The $5,000 Aarons scholarship will be awarded annually to an LGBT undergraduate or graduate student who plans a career in journalism and is committed to furthering NLGJA's mission of fair and accurate coverage of the LGBT community.

So, it's OK to encourage them to come out. I guess that way they won't have to "reassign" them at a later date! :eyes:

As for those that thought this was about Anderson Cooper, to my knowledge he's already out.
