Is there a gay gene?September 26, 2006
<snip>
Researchers at Evanston Northwestern Healthcare Research Institute are hoping to identify one or more genes that help determine sexual orientation.
"We hope our study will dispel mythologies and ignorance about homosexuality," said Dr. Alan Sanders, a Northwestern University psychiatrist who is directing the five-year study.
But some gays are wary. They fear discovering gay genes could lead to efforts to "cure" homosexuality, or to prenatal tests for gay genes.
Researchers say that's not their intent.

Maybe that's just my usual suspicious mind in action (of course, one becomes suspicious about everything with this atrocious excuse of a president and equally repulsive GOP running the show.)
However, I can absolutely envision talk of a "cure" in the future.....and I can definitely see the "results" being twisted into a typical right wing fundamentalist christian conservative wedge issue, or worse. I hope not.
