The United Kingdom does not have equal marriage, they have only faux, "Jim Crow" civil partnerships, which do not carry the same legal status or rights as marriage under British law. Cummings and Shaffer have entered into a civil partnership.

We'll probably save the big ceremony for when we can actually marry. Still, it's a big step and I congratulate Mr Cumming on his big day!

6. Partner and I have been RDP'd (Registered Domestic Partners)

for 5 years now (30 years "in sin"). Starting this year we can now file joint state income tax. I have lost hope, we will ever marry.
