Wyoming GOP Seeks To Make Out-of-State Gay Marriage Illegal
They are running behind the time; Washington had such a law since 1998.

Wyoming GOP Seeks To Make Out-of-State Gay Marriage Illegal

(Cheyenne, Wyoming) Wyoming Republicans have introduced legislation that would void same-sex marriages performed in areas where gays and lesbians can legally wed. If passed it would mean Wyoming gays could not travel to Canada or any of the European countries where same-sex couples can marry.

Massachusetts, the only state where gay marriage is legal, has limited it to couples from that state and from Rhode Island.

But the Wyoming measure would also mean that couples from areas were they were allowed to marry could not come to the state, which calls itself 'The Equality State' and have their marriages recognized either by the state or by private businesses.

Wyoming already has a so-called Defense of Marriage law that mandates marriages conducted in the state must be between a man and woman. The new measure would strengthen that act.

1. I'd put a rider on the bill
stating that any "christians" who divorce in the state will be executed. How can the sanctity of marriage be maintained with the proliferation of divorce amongst those who hate in the name of Jesus Christ?

Using laws as weapons against citizens because "conservatives" hate segments of society; extremely sad.

4. If they're going to do it, they ought to go all the way and not cherrypick.
But that's communism, you see... :o

5. The Washington Defense of Marriage Alliance has that sort of thing planned
Last July, the state Supreme Court ruled that there is a "legitimate state interest" in the Legislature keeping marriage "for the sake of having and raising children."

So, we are floating an initiative this year that will make procreation a requirement for legal marriage in Washington State. Two other initiatives are planned for future years: one that will prohibit divorce if the couple have children, and one that will make having a child together the equivalent of legal marriage (with all the attendant felony charges if they are unable to get married to one another.)

2. what a shame, I hear that Cheyenne is totally a gay mecca
really, does anyone think this is a pressing issue in Wyoming? (well, maybe JHole) exactly how many gay couples have moved into Wyoming and expected their marriages to be recognized?

how nice to live in a state where the pressing issues of the day are who can, and cannot, get married, hypothetically. Why, Wyoming must be some sort of paradise to have no other problems to deal with.

3. Defense of Marriage law--this has always struck
me as stupid. I had not known that gay unions or marriages were such a dire threat to "normal" marriages. If Republican marriages are breaking up that is their problem not gays. I shudder when I think of the many dubasses in this country.

6. While they're at it, maybe they could make it illegal to visit Wyoming.
