Church: we'll make gay rights martyrs
That's the Roman Catholic Church in Scotland.

http://news.scotsman.com/uk.cfm?id=145842007

THE Catholic Church is to go to war over new legislation on rights for homosexuals, vowing to create "gay rights martyrs" if the laws are passed.

In a change of tactics, Church officials now say they will not close down adoption agencies as a result of new laws forcing them to deal with applications from gay couples.

Instead, they will deliberately break the law in order to bring a case to court. The Church believes it could then challenge a guilty verdict through Article 9 of the Human Rights Act, which upholds the freedom of religious expression.

The challenge considerably increases the temperature in a row that last week left the Cabinet divided and prompted warnings from Church leaders that the issue would prompt them to campaign against Labour in May's Scottish elections. Scotland has two Catholic adoption agencies, which place about 200 children and offer aftercare to 2,000 more.

Sure. Martyrs.

What about the adoptable babies?

1. Does this mean they're bringing back the Inquisition?

2. Excuse me, church,
but practicing bigotry and discrimination is not a protected act of religious expression.

3. Why aren't the pious worried about subverting God's will?
Gays are made by God.
God is Omnipotent.
Pious people trying to change what God has made.
God Mad at Pious people for thinking he doesn't know what he's (she's) doing.

What is the matter with these people? Either their God in Omnipotent or he isn't...and if he is he knows why people are gay, he made them that way. So tell these people to stop trying to change God's will....

5. Maybe the Church SHOULD get out of the adoption business
It occurs to me that the when it comes to kids the Catholic Church has a pretty spotty record at best. Children should probably be kept away from the Church and its institutions for their own protection.

7. It's like this. THEY will be the "martyrs" ...
... when they get in trouble for disobeying the anti-discrimination law.

The talk of "martyrs" is self-dramatization.

11. I was kind of hoping they'd go wrestle a lion or
set themselves on fire, or something interesting.

It could happen!

Don't you have to be dead to be a martyr? What, do they get forty underage virgins and a donkey in heaven if they die a martyr? I may have that confused with some other martyrish criteria, but why else would someone want to be a martyr? Oh yeah, because they're nuts.

10. Religion = Pure fucking evil.
People like that just hide behind their dogma as an excuse to hate, they are sick sad people. They can have the right to practice their kult ideology but other people who should have the same rights they have are condeemed by ignorant bullshit.

The Church can go fuck its self.

14. Shutting down adoption services
because they are forced to let gays adopt seems perfectly analogous to schools in Virginia shutting down in order to prevent integration. Talk about throwing out the baby with the bathwater... (hmm... perhaps a bad metaphor when talking about adoption...)

15. Well....
According to the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition:

mar·tyr   (mahr-ter) n.

1. One who chooses to suffer death rather than renounce religious principles.
2. One who makes great sacrifices or suffers much in order to further a belief, cause, or principle.
3. One who endures great suffering.
4. One who makes a great show of suffering in order to arouse sympathy.

I don't think that they'll choose number 1, but I'm willing to be proven wrong. And as for number 2, -- I don't any sacrifices are being made either, except within the ranks of their victims. Number 3? Well, up til now, we're the only ones doing any suffering. So I pick number 4 -- a great show to arouse sympathy. NOT!

But I'd be glad to be of any assistance I can in helping them achieve their martydom. I know!!! We can take them all out to the zoo and then pitch them into the lions cages. See? that way, they'll be following the biblie correctly -- we'll get some peace when its over -- and everyone's happy!!!

16. What kind of people DOES the Church approve of?
People starving, people getting maimed and killed in war, people dying of disase, the global environment at the tipping point and the Church is getting all worked up about kids growing up with adoptive parents of the same sex. Apparently it preferable that they grow up in an institution rather than in a loving home.

The way it stands now we should be concerned about those couples who DO meet the Church's criteria for adoptive parents. God only knows what kind of twisted freaks they are.
