Why is the Wyoming bill getting so much attention?
Edited on Tue Jan-30-07 03:59 PM by TechBear_Seattle
Not recognizing out-of-state marriages that violate state law is nothing new: Washington made it part of it's Defense of Marriage Act in 1998 (see 26.04.02 RCW 1(c) and 3.) Most states have something similar.

What am I missing?

Edit: Oops, it helps to put that little pipe character in the link tag.

1. I can't find the exact part of the ruling
but, at one time (until 1967, to be exact) states were allowed to not recognize marriages between people of different races performed in other states; opening the partners in those marriages to criminal penalties for miscegenation. Loving v. Virginia changed that and said, in no uncertain terms, that a marriage legally performed in one state was legal in ALL states.

That's what the big deal is.
