2. No, it never ends.

As long as perceived gayness can be detrimental, as long as there are people who are willing to make an issue of it, people will wonder about who is gay and who isn't.

3. I hate to point out the obvious, but the speculation on his orientation
is not the problem and doesn't make him a security risk.

What makes him a security risk is that he may have hidden it in the closet.

Get it? Gay = no risk. Closet = BIG risk.

Plus, for all we know, he may have had other issues keeping him in that closet.

5. The key issue is the potential for blackmail
I know a number of openly gay/les people (and even a few TGs) with security clearances. The issue is not your orientation, but the potential to be blackmailed for something hidden, be it sexual or something else.

4. You consider that post to be "gay baiting?"
Rather a paranoid attitude to take. It seems to me that to be a simple case of someone mentioning a rumor in the context of a point for discussion. Or is it that certain people on DU aren't comfortable unless they're feeling persecuted?

6. Gay baiters want to hurt people.
Why give them what they want by displaying anger and pain? They should be resisted in ways that work, not ways that just stimulate them. Sometimes that means elsewhere, elsewhen.

I'm not Gay, but I was teased mercilessly in grade-school. I learned that when you react to the "daggers" it gives them what they want. I learned to turn some people into Nothing - exactly as though they didn't exist. This allowed me to be what I am and I found that better than making them a part of me by reacting to them.

7. Locking
No matter how repugnant one finds the responses in a thread it is still a violation of DU rules to use the subforums to "rally the troops" to a particular thread. The best policy is to use the alert button on posts that are offensive or otherwise against DU rules.

Thanks,
