Virginia Anti-Gay License Plates Gain Momentum
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/02/020105vaLicense.htm

Cars in Virginia could soon have license plates extolling traditional marriage. The House of Delegates passed a bill Tuesday allowing the state to print the plates. The legislation now moves to the Senate where it must be approved before the scheduled adjournment on Feb. 26.

The House voted 62 - 35 to approve the bill. The special issue plates would have interlocking gold wedding bands superimposed over a red heart and have the phrase "Traditional Marriage."

The bill was authored by Delegate Scott Limgamfelter (R-Prince William) a supporter of an amendment to ban gay marriage, also expected to pass this year.

does this mean I have to take my rainbow stickers off my car if I drive through Virginia

1. This'll be a test for Mark Warner
Living in Virginia I have no doubt this will pass...if Mark Warner lets it become law he can kiss any chance of being the Democratic nominee in 4 years goodbye.

Gawd why did I move here ?!

3. Must have been temorary insanity on your part
I'd love to move away, but have an 83 year old mother in the area to worry about.

2. F*ck!
I live in Prince William County! (although he isn't my delegate!) This isn't rural southern Virginia, folks, this is 30 miles south of Washington, D.C. in a suburbian bedroom community.

Time to get some gay pride stickers, just in case I ever run across one of these license plates.

4. Geez, let those poor, oppressed straight people express themselves.

I mean, they only make up 99.995% of the Virginia population.

5. I define Traditional Marriage
Edited on Wed Feb-02-05 11:31 AM by BOSSHOG
as a bond between two people who love each other till death do they part. I would urge all Homosexual couples to get the plate and proudly display it. Fuck a bunch of neanderthals who want to define marriage. What is a traditional red state heterosexual marriage - divorce, incest, spouse abuse? I got their traditional marriage hanging right here.

"Peace & Equality are Moral Values"

Tell me - is there a move to get "Equal Rights for All" plates in Virginia? My husband and I would be glad to purchase them for our cars if there is...

on edit - Bosshog - I LOVE THAT IDEA! Couple the Traditional Marriage plate with rainbow diversity stickers!!!
Steal their hate-filled message and turn it into a message of love!

9. Yuk!
Gotta move outta VA.

It's great that these people support traditional marriage. Good for them. Why do they have to proclaim it on their cars? And why involve the state with this for that purpose?

11. Because they don't believe in 'tolerance' in any form
They'd hold you down and ram their beliefs down your throat, because that's how they work.

Their faith -requires- them to try to force others to believe.

For their own good, of course.

10. Virginia long since left my United States...
...by enshrining bigotry and declaring null-and-void even the legal paperwork my same-sex spouse and I drew up with each other.

With all the other laws, amendments, and other acts of legal intolerance being passed all over the place, I now estimate my United States (those places where my wife and I dare travel) is about 60% of what it once was.

12. Now THIS is interesting. . .
Del. Brian Moran (D-Alexandria) warned that the plates could wind up in a court battle. He told the House that the plates would become a public forum and federal courts have repeatedly ruled that dissenting viewpoints must be given the same forum, opponents of the bill argued.

"So if we pass a traditional marriage license plate represented as a man and a woman, next year we're going to have `Gay Marriage' or `Marriage Equality' license plates, and I suspect you all won't want to pass those," Moran said.

Law of Unintended Consequences -- just like in Utah. Let the right wing trogs bury themselves with this as "Support Gay Marriage" license plates pop up all across Virginia! :)
