Connecticut Gays Go For Broke In Marriage Strategy
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/02/020804connMarr.htm

Advocates of same-sex marriage were questioned at a packed legislative hearing Monday about why they were pushing for marriage rights for homosexuals instead of more politically palpable civil unions.

"What was heralded as a civil rights triumph five years ago is now being offered up as an affront to peoples' sensibilities. It's so hard for me to reconcile that," said Sen. Andrew Roraback (R-Goshen) referring to civil unions.

But Anne Stanback, president of the pro-gay-marriage group Love Makes a Family, said her organization decided to lobby the legislature to pass a marriage law this year because it believes Connecticut is open to such a change. And marriage, she said, has been the ultimate goal for gay and lesbian couples.

2. Why does there need to be such a "push?"
Where in the Constitution does it define marriage between a man and a woman? Why do heterosexuals need to prevent homosexuals from getting married to "save" their marriages? It they'd put more effort into lowering rates of divorce, incest, spousal abuse, teen pregnancy and less effort into hating fellow Americans then maybe marriage would be more attractive to more Americans.

Two people who love each can get married in this country right now. Show me in the Constitution where I'm wrong.

3. basically, i think you're right.
however the divorce rate may have more to do with spread of individuals making their own choices about who they marry -- i.e. parents and community elders now butt out -- than anything else.
a 50% divorce rate may in fact be normal with fewer ''outside'' constraints.

4. Divorce is a failure

of a heterosexual bond. One could say they lied under oath; they swore to love and honor and obey till death do they part; a divorce is proof of that lie. Codifying hate and discrimination to keep homosexuals from marrying will not save hetero marriages.

Bottom line - THE CONSTITUTION HAS TO BE ALTERED TO PREVENT HOMOSEXUALS FROM MARRYING. Why? Because there is no such prevention now.
