Rev. Ted Haggard who was outed by a former male prostitute and subsequently fired from the Colorado Springs mega-church he founded has terminated the "recovery program" that was part of his departure from New Life Church even though the church says it is premature for him to leave.
Little has been said about the substance of the program. Some gay activists have suggested it is akin to programs in the so-called ex-gay movement.

An outspoken critic of homosexuality Haggard was outed in 2006 by former hustler Mike Jones in the days leading up to a vote in Colorado to amend the state constitution to ban same-sex marriage.

The story broke when Jones brought tapes of conversations with Haggard to Denver TV station KUSA. Jones told the station that he had a long term pay for ex relationship with Haggard and had helped the pastor buy crystal meth.
