Virginia Dumps Bill Targeting Gay Adoptions

Legislation that would have required social workers in adoption cases to determine whether applicants are gay was turned turned down Wednesday by a committee of the Virginia Senate.

The decision by the Courts of Justice Committee means the bill will not get to the Senate floor for a vote.

"This thing comes awfully close to being pretty bigoted, so I can't support it," said Sen. Richard Saslaw (D-Fairfax).

2. As An Adoptive Parent,...

...I get to meet many Gay/Lesbian adoptive parents at the picnic sponsored annually by the adoption agency. My wife and I have yet to meet gay/Lesbian parents who are not WONDERFULLY loving, nurturung and caring.

I can't believe that some bigoted, horse's ass politicians are so willing to deprive so many children of great families!

Of course, we're living in a country whose very foundations, apparently, will be shaken by a Lesbian saying "Hi, Buster. Come on in!" to a cartoon bunny! :silly:

My wife and I are Roman Catholic Liberal Democrats who stand by the Gay/Lesbian community. WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED!

p.s. I've got a BIG mouth, so silencing me isn't easy to do. Just ask the right wingers who've been trying to do that since I went to my first anti-Vietnam war demonstration when I was 14 (I'm going to be 50 in 4 months)!

Virginia has, overall, one of the worst bodies of anti-gay state laws (including case law) regarding family law matters in the entire nation. Reactionary. Bigoted. Discriminatory. So much so that I am taken aback to learn that the Virginia State Senate rejected placing another anti-gay family law statute on their books! Well. Well. Well.

It causes one to, at least, smile.

Only time will tell if Virginia is willing to enter the 20th century. Yes, the twentieth century regarding gays and family law.
