Pride at the Polls: News for GLBT Democrats and their allies
--------------------------
GLBT COMMUNITY PLAYS BIG ROLE AT DNC WINTER MEETING

This past week was a very exciting one for GLBT Democrats.

DNC SPONSORS FIRST-EVER GLBT ELECTION FORUM

On Thursday, the DNC made history by hosting the first-ever GLBT Election Forum. We brought in 25 GLBT Democratic field and political operatives who worked in 20 different states during the last election cycle. Participants heard presentations from the National Stonewall Democrats, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, America Coming Together, America Votes, the Young Voter Alliance, the Human Rights Campaign, Pride at Work, and the Citizens to Restore Fairness (Cincinnati, OH).

Outgoing DNC Chairman Terry McAuliffe welcomed participants, and Congressman Barney Frank served as the forum's keynote speaker. Cathy Renna, the former Media Relations Director for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, moderated a very productive panel on how we as a community can work to make our national organizations more representative of our community as a whole -- which is the most diverse community in America. At the end of the day, Eric Stern moderated an open and honest discussion with participants, which resulted in a list of tangible recommendations from the community for new DNC Chairman Howard Dean.

GLBT COMMUNITY PARTICIPATES IN TRIBUTE TO CHAIRMAN TERRY MCAULIFFE

On Thursday night, forum participants attended the hottest ticket in Washington, D.C. -- a tribute to Chairman McAuliffe at the beautiful National Building Museum. Participants had the opportunity to hear riveting speeches from President Clinton and Senator Kerry and meet and network with Democratic allies from all across the nation.

GOVERNOR DEAN WELCOMES THE GLBT CAUCUS OF THE DNC AND THE NATIONAL STONEWALL DEMOCRATS

On Friday afternoon, the GLBT Caucus of the DNC held its official meeting and was treated to a warm welcome from Governor Howard Dean and Congressman Mike Honda, Susie Turnbull, and Linda-Chavez Thompson, all of whom were elected DNC Vice Chairs on Saturday. On Friday night, Governor Dean made remarks at a reception for the National Stonewall Democrats, where he pledged his continuing support for our community's quest for equality under the law.

GLBT DEMOCRATS WITNESS ELECTION OF GOVERNOR DEAN AS NEW DNC CHAIR

On Saturday, forum participants witnessed the unanimous election of Governor Howard Dean as the new Chair of the DNC. Governor Dean brings a new level of excitement and energy to our Party as we prepare for this year's important gubernatorial elections in New Jersey and Virginia and mayoral races across the country.

Sincerely,
Eric J. Stern
DNC Director of GLBT Outreach

P. S. On a personal note, this is my last week at the DNC. It has been a pleasure working with all of you. As of February 28, I will be the new Executive Director of the National Stonewall Democrats. Thank you for all of your support and inspiration and I look forward to continuing to work with you to increase the participation of our community within our party. Please support the efforts of the new GLBT Outreach Director. Together, we can take back this country in the name of equality for all Americans.

4. now why would anyone in the gay community want to pay tribute
to McAuliffe or any of the other DNC pooh-bahs

how many times has the gay community been screwed over by the Democrats--they're getting almost as good as the Repukes

I'm curious what 20 states they worked in--wonder if any passed DOMA amendments

7. I'm With You!
And if we (the Gay Community) are so FUCKING important..... (the main reason being that the 06' elections are around the corner, and they want your Queer money, and for you to volunteer for any dickwad they decide to run, no matter how you are treated.... Just smile, and shut the fuck up already!)............

But if we are so fucking appreciated, why the all attention now... and not before?...

Especially after that cocksucker McAuliffe, and other Democratic leaders allowed Gays to be the whipping boy for months on the election loss issue?

And lets be fair... (and this will get me a black eye)... there was not a bit of difference between Bush, & Kerry on Gay marriage!

Kerry's loss couldn't have been because he was a weak candidate, and failed to fight..... could it? I can't stand Bush... But people like him because he fights for what ever he believes in... no matter if the topic is madder than a March Hare!

They (the DNC) are just worried that the Queer vote, (and their money) that they took for granted for so long, just might be going to the Greens, or Independents.....

Just A Thought....

5. Barney Frank?
Barney Frank, the House's most openly transphobic democrat, was the "keynote speaker"? Sigh. I sure am glad these people gave themselves the right to speak for us... :eyes:
