Couple 'Kicked Out' Of Health Center Because They Are Lesbian

The American Civil Liberties Union filed a discrimination lawsuit Thursday on behalf of a Utica, New York couple kicked out of a health care center because the women are lesbians - even though one of them desperately needs the center's services.

Louise Bizzari suffers from severe osteoarthritis and other medical conditions and needs to use theCharles T. Sitrin Health Care Center’s pool to avoid losing her leg.

“It is shameful that a business that is supposedly committed to improving people’s health would deny this couple access solely because they are lesbians,” said Sharon McGowan, a staff attorney for the ACLU’s Lesbian and Gay Rights Project, who is representing the couple.
