Can Dean Keep His Backbone On Gay Rights?
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/02/022505dean.htm

A year ago, an activist group from the Seattle area gave Howard Dean a thin, golden statue of a backbone.

The Oscar-like award honored the former Democratic presidential candidate and Vermont governor for standing up against the Iraq war and other Bush administration policies.

Now, as Dean settles into his new role as head of the Democratic Party, that golden spine has come to represent, for many liberal Democrats, Dean's potential to develop a tougher, take-no-prisoners attitude among the party faithful.

1. Thanks for the post, Dwickham!
I hope that he can keep his SPINE.

I have heard that he is being shunned by the Inside-the-Belway-ites.

Especially when he has a planned visit to their home state.

So, I need to dispatch an e-mail to him every-once-in-awhile to remind him that the People stand behind him.

2. we'll see.
he has to feisty about the issue -- the answer for him of course -- is leave it up to the states.
not much comfort for us there, i'm afraid.
at least not right now.

3. It's my ol' over-enthusiasm, again!
I'm a mom and PFLAG-er who supports gay rights.

My problem is that I always believe in everyone.

You're right. We have to see if he sticks by his principles.

8. Imagine if interracial marriage was left up to the states?
There are still Southern states which wouldn't allow it. Not to mention interracial couples in any state would miss out on the federal benefits of marriage like immigration.

5. Apparently not; just heard him in a radio interview yesterday, where
he basically ridiculed the idea the democrats supported gay marriage. The comment was regarding the ads claiming that AARP is pro-gay marriage and anti-soldier. He pretty much ridiculed the idea that the democratic party supports gay marriage; it was kind of along the lines of 'How dare any one say such a slanderous thing about the democratic party.' Just one more nail in the coffin....
