Ready for a huge shock? Conservative Calif. County Delivers Setback To Gay Marriage Foes
(Bakersfield, California) Kern County supervisors refused to ban gay marriage, rebutting a conservative group that sought to make it the first California county to reject the statewide policy.

The Campaign for Children and Families hoped the passage of a gay marriage ban in Kern County would embolden other counties to follow suit.

But supervisors declined to act on the measure after Bernard Barmann, the county's lawyer, said it would be illegal for the county to adopt its own same-sex marriage ban.

1. well there you have it
so in light of that, isn't the Campaign for Children and Families engaged in a civil crime now? They are advocating breaking state law for their own political purposes with the effect of denying a group or individual civil rights.

It is time for us to file a costly civil lawsuit against them calling for their loss of legal status.

My parents live in Bakersfield and like to gamble. I don't need them TOO close to slot machines!

4. Not really shocking,
it's part of their job description to uphold the law. You can't arbitrarily change court rulings. A county could pass a law, but then they'd subject themselves to a costly and (probably very short) legal challenge. As many of you know, the Supreme Court of California has already had a say, so I'm not really seeing any reason for shock on this one.
