1. WHY would I want to do that? I fully support providing meds for
any HIV or Aids patients no matter where they are, but I think we have enough problems here already.

10. Congratulations.
Your attitude is no better than the public policy created by Jesse Helms.

So, you're against HIV+ persons from attending international conferences held in the United States?

See how intellectually simple-minded your post is?

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door."

6. oy.
Regarding that other post - I guess we should also test for low IQ's. Heck do you know how much money we could save if we rounded up all the people with tragic soap opera diseases, congenital afflictions and bad hair and sent them off to live in, say, Iran.

That way all the outwardly flawless people could sit here and throw all that saved money in the air and catch it and rub it on their nipples and give themselves another tax break.

Bizarreness.

British Pygmie Nipple Men Unite! You're all about to be deported, probably for being British!

18. Confused
Do we now allow immigrants with TB, and other serious illnesses to immigrate?

What will be the public cost over the typical life of an HIV infected person versus other diseases that are not discriminated against?

The visitation question is simple. But immigration while noble is perhaps not worth the limited political capital available.

19. Yes, we do.
"HIV is the only medical condition permanently designated in law -- in the Immigration and Nationality Act -- as grounds for inadmissibility to the United States. Even leprosy and tuberculosis are left to the discretion of the secretary of health and human services."

23. "Limited Political Capital"?
If the last 20 years have taught us nothing else, it's that there will never be a "right" time to push for gay and gay-related causes. We will ALWAYS be told to wait.

Let's all try to imagine a world where people do the right thing because it's the right thing to do, and stop playing asinine games with dry powder.

25. I think this notion of "limited political capital"
is the ultimate cause of the 9% approval rating of Congress.

Unlike the Shrub, the Democrats really got a mandate to go in. Instead, Congressional Democrats have been whining and caving on everything the right wing wants.

28. Good news...the Senate voted to repeal the travel ban.
:-)

U.S. Senate Approves Repeal of HIV Travel Ban in America

The U.S. Senate voted Wednesday to repeal the nation's law barring HIV-positive visitors and immigrants from traveling to America. Sens. John Kerry (D-MA) and Gordon Smith (R-OR) attached the repeal to legislation reauthorizing PEPFAR, the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. The PEPFAR bill was approved by a vote of 80 to 16 and now moves to committee in the senate before being sent to the President.

“We applaud the Senate for rejecting this unjust and sweeping policy that deems HIV-positive individuals inadmissible to the United States,” said Human Rights Campaign president Joe Solmonese. “We call on the leaders of the House and Senate to retain the Kerry-Smith provision in conference and ensure it is included in the final legislation sent to the President’s desk.” (The Advocate)
