so I didn't know about Prop 8.

My district/county - formerly Hastert country - went formerly blue. We had a special election of a DEM candidate in March as Hastert just left his post to be lobbyist. Yesterday made it official.

This prop 8 thing could still turn around. I have hope.

Way too many Dems voted for that piece of crap proposition. I don't get it.

the effort will continue. Newer generations of voters will embrace equal rights marriage just as they embraced Barak Obama yesterday. Some of the older ones may come around. Those who oppose will die off. It will happen. Eventually.

I don't think I have ever been as emotionally confused as I am this morning. It's difficult to bear, this strange mixture of joy and almost unspeakable hurt and grief. On a single ballot, the people of California both rejected AND embraced bigotry.

We were tentatively planning to get married there. If Proposition 8 turns out to have indeed passed, then I honestly don't know what we'll do. New England, maybe. We lived in New York for a while, and Boston is also nice. *sigh*

I can tell you with all certainty that we will have marriage equality next. It's only been the Repukes in the State Senate stopping marriage equality but the entire legislature is in Democratic hands now (we finally took back the state senate last night), and our governor is a huge ally. That is the one thing holding me up right now WRT our issues.

8. So so happy, yet so sad

I was so happy to see the racial barriers broken in the country last night as Barack Obama became our president, but I was saddened by the outcome of Prop 8. If CA can't stop pure discrimination like that junk, what hope do my g/f and I have living in a red state like GA, or any other gay americans in this country.

this is about our lives- day to day--it's not like we can live in a closet. Our lives are impacted by laws and attitudes daily and we are all aware of pernicious and sub rosa bigotry can be.

I'm hurting for all of you and I'm so angry that hate has won, at least for now. Discrimination should never, EVER be on a freakin' ballot! I honestly don't know what else to say because there's nothing I can say to make it better.
