Question about Gay Pride festivities.
Is it okay for straight people to attend?

1. YES YES YES
That makes me sad to think straight people wouldn't think they're welcome!!

2. ...
It is not that I think that I am not welcome as much as I do not want to tread on "sacred space" if you know what I mean.

My family and I fully intend to go to Disneyland during Gay Days next year and we will definitely wear red!

7. Oh KW .. there is no such thing as "sacred space" when
it comes to WONDERFUL supporters like you and your family.

I can't imagine anyone saying you aren't welcome at any event you choose .. especially if you "represent."

Please help us. We need caring human beings like yourself.

I just can't express how grateful I am for all you do.

And if even one person says anything to you (because let's face it, there are a-holes in every group), you let me know and it'll be addressed. ;)

OXOXOXO

19. It's friends like you who make that space sacred to begin with.

5. I go to the Houston Pride parade almost every year.
Allies are appreciated :-)

I was also at an anti-prop H8 protest a couple weeks ago, and about 1/3 of the crowd raised their hands when asked how many straight allies were there.

One speaker told a story about how important it was to have straight friends and family supporting them, since so many of them still are cut off from family when they come out.

So, I may just be a visitor in this forum, and may not be to whom this question is directed, but I have always been very warmly welcomed when attending GLBT events.

6. Come be in our PFLAG contingent ...
Edited on Sun Nov-30-08 11:09 PM by Maat
at least you might consider joining (your local chapter of Parents, Family, Friends of Lesbians and Gays). As a matter of fact, we usually hook up with the Orange County and San Diego County peeps - we form one big line of cars (some of us march in front of the cars).

I was talking about the parades - HeeHee - there's no marching at Disneyland.

:)

And, we always have a booth at the festivals!

8. Always. Family and friends are encouraged and welcome.
Lot of reasons why straight people are always welcome.

1. They are our friends and family
2. They are our allies
3. We might be mistakenly assuming they're straight.
4. They might be mistakenly assuming they're straight.
5. We want to be included in society, so turning people away is counter productive.

So come and be Merry. Or come and be Mary. Either way, come and have fun. :P

16. That's what a Religious Right infiltrator would wear:
Birkenstocks, chaps, and something she saw on the L Word (just watching for research purposes...)

26. some of them "infiltrate" the GLBT community
on a regular basis

you can find them at your local bars, etc

I used to "know" a former Republican state chairman-won't mention which state

22. The only worse faux pas
is chaps and white sneakers, both off-the-rack, trimmed out with a pink niknik shirt and a gallon of perfume. But that's usually only done by elderly Canadians, attempting to "live dangerously" whilst vacationing in south Florida. I got stories :D

KitchenWitch, you go any way you want to, Dear One. Be sure to collect hugs, because you are due plenty of them!
