Inflammation and Neuropsychiatric Illness
There are no links. There are no ads. There is only information, please keep the unrecs to a minimum, I don't want another stay at the nervous hospital.

William Shaw, Ph.D., and The Great Plains Laboratory, Inc. sponsor “Inflammation and Neuropsychiatric Illness: Treatment and Testing Protocols," presented by Dr. James Greenblatt on November 9, 2011.

Inflammation plays a powerful role in physical as well as mental health. Because the brain and the immune system communicate with each other, inflammation (due to an infection, stress, or other source) will affect the body as well as the brain. Inflammation has been shown to result in psychological effects such as depression and other mood changes. This webinar will address how chronic inflammation affects the synthesis of neurotransmitters and contribute to depression and other psychiatric disorders. Nutritional and dietary interventions will be discussed in relation to chronic inflammation.

James Greenblatt, M.D., is a dually board-certified child and adult psychiatrist and is the Founder and Medical Director of Comprehensive Psychiatric Resources, an integrative psychiatry practice. Dr. Greenblatt received his medical degree and completed his adult psychiatry residency at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and completed a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Medical School. Dr. Greenblatt is an Assistant Clinical Professor at Tufts University Medical School, Department of Psychiatry. For over 20 years, Dr. Greenblatt has been a leader in Integrative Medicine, lecturing throughout North America on the scientific evidence for nutritional treatments in psychiatry and eating disorders.

Please note: This is a one time, live event; however, it will be recorded and posted to The Great Plains Laboratory, Inc. website.

9. There was mention of "molecules of emotion" in Candace Pert's book of the same name,
as well as immunotransmitters mentioned in The Brain Wellness Plan. I had read Dr. Philpotts book Brain Allergies some 15 years ago outlining the role of food allergies/intolerances/addictions and psychological symptomology. Each one was worth the read.

2. Chronic inflammation can led to cancer. Just look at the burn scar cancers
people used to get before proper burn management came about. And in cats we see intestinal cancers that are almost certainly secondary to chronic inflammatory bowel disease.

3. bookmarking for later, thanks!`
i have psoriatic arthritis, and that makes ALL my connective tissues inflamed when i am in a flare-up. I lived in what I call a "pain blanket" for a few years as the disease progressed, it affected everything in my life. I was unable to cook, clean, care for my kids and hold a job, i was definitely depressed no doubt. the pain had a way of making me feel so horrible inside my own skin and head, i wanted out a few times.
eventually I found the right meds and went into remission, and can't believe how much i dealt with for so long.
recently had to stop meds for a surgical procedure, because it is an autioimmune suppressant and increases the risk for infection...within a few weeks I was right back in the blanket, struggling to cope with day to day tasks. I am holding up better now emotionally because I know there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and that once I am cleared post op- i can start my meds again and feel relief. but I hate feeling like I am dragging myself through the days...

4. Another PA person here
There are times that the pain seeps into every pore. When I hear comments "oh it's JUST arthritis" my teeth start to grind. The word inflammation sounds rather blase but it can be everywhere and like a tank destroy as it goes. Once things are destroyed you can't undo them. Some are lucky enough to get joint replacements but if the disease goes rampant you can't possibly keep up with the destruction. When you have it for decades either the disease destroys or many of the meds you need to take can also destroy.
In this country so many suffer from similar conditions and if that isn't bad enough they have to fight the medical community. You fight for meds for pain, constantly fight insurance,Medicare, doctors who refuse you if you have Medicare. Stress is so much a part any chronic illness and it's only getting worse as we deal with the 1% who would just as soon forget we are even here.

6. amen!
I am lucky that i already had a real interest and knowledge in medicine and physiology, so that I can be my own advocate when it comes to the system. I am on Medi-CAL and it has been a rough road getting the doctoring i need. Now I have the right people, and they are on my side, thank gawd...

You are right about the inflammation destruction and what else it can lead to. I also found out recently that my childhood home was built on top of a deserted sulfur mine, so me and many of the kids in that neighborhood are suffering from autoimmune and genetic disorders (most of the older ones died of cancer from being in the dirt and the creek...)...heavy metal toxicity may be the culprit. we'll see if some detox over the next few months helps me get off the meds a little more...
