Signs of ageing halted in the lab
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-15552964

The onset of wrinkles, muscle wasting and cataracts has been delayed and even eliminated in mice, say researchers in the US.

It was done by "flushing out" retired cells that had stopped dividing. They accumulate naturally with age.

The scientists believe their findings could eventually "really have an impact" in the care of the elderly.

Experts said the results were "fascinating", but should be taken with a bit of caution.

3. Me too!
My grandmother told me when I was in my thirties, "Steve, this getting old is the shits." She was about eighty then.

I really miss her now that I'm starting to get old, too.

:hi:

6. it said "signs of aging"
not aging itself.

We'll still die off - we'll just look better! :)

Cheer up, with climate change, more natural disasters will do away with more of us at a time at a faster rate.

Besides, humans seem to find ways to kill each other more and more efficiently every day.

8. "muscle wasting" - i.e. cardiac muscles....
Sounds like a "fountain of youth" since heart disease is still the #1 killer.;)

7. I would love to be the way most of my cats were
Once they attained adulthood, they were set and didn't seem to age much at all until they were over 13 or so, then I'd start seeing things like mild arthritis but nothing worse. My old lady cat is starting to develop real problems associated with age but she's old enough to vote, almost a centenarian in cat years. At least mild senility has gotten her to forget the abusers who scarred her kittenhood.

Equivalent aging in humans would mean being able to run and jump like a teenager well into the 60s.

I would hate to see immortality. I would love to see health extended but not life. Getting that three score and ten in a healthy body followed by rapid decline would be infinitely preferable to having bits and bobs start to fail in our 30s.
