William Shaw, Ph.D., received his Ph.D. in biochemistry and human physiology from the Medical University of South Carolina. He is board certified in the fields of clinical chemistry and toxicology by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry. Dr. Shaw has supervised large endocrinology, nutritional biochemistry, toxicology, and immunology departments in positions at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Smith Kline Laboratories in Atlanta, GA. As the Director of The Great Plains Laboratory, Inc. for Health, Nutrition and Metabolism in Lenexa, Kansas, he specializes in providing diagnostic tools that aid in the diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders, mitochondrial disorders, neurological diseases, chronic health issues, and immune diseases.

Autism has a genetic component:

Autism is hereditary, in that children with autistic people in their family are more likely than other children to be autistic. Researchers are well on the way to finding genes that relate to autism -- but the jury is still out regarding exactly how such genes might function to create autistic symptoms. Sophia Colamarino, Science Program Director at Cure Autism Now, explains,"We’re talking about genes because they allow us to understand the biological origins of the problem."

Broadly speaking Cuba is as Cuba was. I even met a girl there who knew her lineage back to a slave plantation. It came up in conversation because I was amazed she had both English christian and surnames - most of her village have too. Assuming it to be correct that there is a genetic link then that might explain why its not prevalent in Cuba - just not in their genes.

It is simple. They diagnose it more. Rather like why have diagnoses of personality disorders SOARED since 2000? Got a guess? Because that was when they were split off from other psych stuff and given their own diagnosis. Cool, isn't it?

It's a bit unfair to say that Autism is an epidemic, I mean it's hereditary, you do not have control whether or not you were born with this.
