The Campaign for a National Health Program NOW is calling for Congressional Hearings in local districts nationwide to demand solutions to the health care crisis. Rep John Conyers, Chair of the 46 member Congressional Universal Health Care Task Force is supporting these hearings and will work to encourage other Members to attend the hearings in cities around the country and listen to the testimony of the people.
A major effort will be made to get broad media coverage of these hearings and the concept behind them – that a national health care system is not only possible, but that it would help rebuild the economy of the country. We want the media to report proposed solutions, including single payer – rather than just reporting the crisis.
The initial round of these Congressional hearings will be held during the spring of 2005. One idea is to hold them on the Memorial Day and 4th of July weekends -- times that might be optimal for Members of Congress who are usually home in their districts. Many people will be off work and able to testify. However, they can be held at other times too.
In only three weeks of discussions, we have already heard from Rochester, Boston, Pittsburgh, Dallas, Chicago, Greenville, MI, Detroit, New York City, Jamestown, NY, Vermont, Sacramento, Lincoln, Cleveland, St. Louis, Nashville, and others who are interested in organizing hearings.
Would you like to hold a hearing, provide testimony, or be a co-sponsor of a hearing?
The state of democracy, jobs, and the economic stability of our country are at stake, and the very fact that so many people are suffering for lack of healthcare requires that we hold these hearings and insist that our representatives and the media listen and respond.
If you want to organize or co-sponsor or testify at one of the Congressional Hearings already being planned or if you would like to take the initiative to organize one in your community, or help fund these important hearings, please be in touch with us. We will help you get involved. And together we will succeed in getting the national health care system we deserve. YES! We can get health care for all! Everybody in; Nobody Out!
