1. Subsidies, subsidies, subsidies.... what the U.S. govt should
actually be subsidizing is GINSENG, PYCNOGENOL, MILK THISTLE and a hundred other medicinal plants in stead of SUGAR CANE by the hundreds of thousands of acres.

By subsidizing sugar cane they are subsidizing diabetes and a whole host of other diseases.

IF they were to subsidize the others..... HEALTHCARE COSTS WOULD PLUMMET. Imagine that for a moment.

2. I'm sure glad we grow sugar beets up here then.
Sugar is much better for you than High Fructose corn syrup. That is the point of the OP. Health care costs would plummet with universal health care much more.

4. A delicious drink that needs no subsidy -- iced mint tea.
Just put some mint leaves in water and make sun tea -- or just make it like any other tea. Mint grows like a weed. In fact, you should only plant it in pots because it will take over a garden. I imagine you can grow it inside in a big pot near a window. It's delicious and healthy. Won't hurt you as far as I have heard. Try it. It makes good hot tea too.

6. I keep my pots of it on a ledge. The crazy plants still climb over
and try to reach out and touch some dirt somewhere. I wonder if mint could be turned into bio-fuel? It will grow anywhere very quickly. Talk about renewable source -- of something. But it makes great tea, so I like to keep a little of it in my garden.
