Whatever happened to Aspergum? Is it still for sale?
I used to get it when I had a sore throat but I haven't seen it around lately...

4. The wikipedia entry doesn't mention why it was discontinued.
I wonder if there was a problem with it in gum form...

7. I can't imagine the problem, it was around for so long. Maybe lack of interest?
I remember being given Aspergum as a kid when I complained of a sore throat. :)

14. Probably some overeager risk management guy
pointed out to the conglomerate that bought the company that some people might like the taste and chew several boxes of it really fast and OD on the aspirin and die and the company would get sued.

That's all I can think of. The stuff did work temporarily on a nasty sore throat.

You can crush an aspirin tablet and chew it with gum and get the same effect of bathing a nasty sore throat in aspirin to soothe the pain. Just make sure you're not taking too much aspirin in a day.

I suggest Juicy Fruit.

6. It went the way of a lot of good products -- just gone from the shelves.

9. I always find it interesting when this happens. Some things are understandable,
they are simply obsolete, but Aspergum served a pretty good purpose and it wasn't harmful.

Maybe people just weren't buying it anymore for some reason  .

10. I have heard that chewing aspirin (I can't imagine doing that... ugh) rather than swallowing them
was bad for the teeth, since the active ingredient is acidic. Could be that Aspergum caused tooth damage? Never tried it myself.

13. I vaguely remember there being some problem with Aspergum...
that caused them to stop making it, or maybe even caused it to be banned. What you heard seems like a probable reason. BTW, I think the gum masked the taste of the aspirin. I don't remember there being a bad taste as there would be with plain aspirin, but I only ever used it a couple times and that was a long time ago.
