FDA finds benzene in sodas (again).
The Seattle Times - March 4, 2006
By David Goldstein

WASHINGTON — When small amounts of benzene, a cancer-causing chemical, were found in some soft drinks 16 years ago, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) never told the public.

That's because the beverage industry told the government it would handle the problem and the FDA thought the problem was solved.

But benzene has turned up again. The FDA found levels in some soft drinks higher than what it found in 1990 and two to four times higher than what's considered safe for drinking water.

"The issue here is not something that should cause anyone alarm or terrific concern," said George Pauli, a top food-safety expert at the FDA, "but if there's something that can be reduced, we want to reduce it."

1. "Not something that should cause anyone alarm "?!
Wow, definitely a * appointee, and probably a former lobbyist for the soda industry. Two to four times the recognized safe level of a highly toxic cancer causing substance in the most widely consumed food (sic) category in this country is "not something that should cause anyone alarm"?

2. Yeah, don't be alarmed -- nothing to see here
Just a toxic chemical, carcinogen. Everyone relax, and have a Coke.

3. I skimmed the whole article, but couldn't find which pop this is
Do you know? They gave the offenders for the 1990 incidents, but not for the soft drinks with benzene right now. Anybody?

4. They aren't telling
Neither Keane nor Pauli would identify the drinks being tested because the investigation is continuing.

7. Cute! The "dip" - the only sure way to kill a Toon.
Eddie and Roger must find the will of the late Marvin Acme, which purportedly gives ownership of Toontown to the toons. Judge Doom is also trying to find the will in order to dispose of it, so he can destroy Toontown and build his freeway, and make himself profit out of the deal. If any toons happen to get in his way, Judge Doom feels no qualms about subjecting them to the "dip": a mixture he concocted of acetone, benzene, and turpentine, and the only sure way to kill a Toon.

You must have an interesting mind!
