As of 5/28(thurs), universal health coverage for all pregnant women in Mexico!
Edited on Sat May-30-09 06:19 PM by Shagbark Hickory
I didn't know this but just read that On December 12, 2008 the Mexican President announced that by 2011, Mexico will have universal coverage for all it's citizens.
And it looks like they're well on their way. As of this past thursday all pregnant women have health coverage.

So much for the republican's moronic argument that universal healthcare will draw in illegals from mexico for treatment.
It could be the other way around!

So when they say that the United states is in effect the only country without universal healthcare, it is the truth. What a joke.

1. When there's universal family planning and promotion of birth control
Mexico will have something to crow about. As it is, the population doubling time is under 30 years.

2. Probably to prevent them from having abortions
About half the states in Mexico have enacted constitutional changes to prohibit abortion by "protecting life" from conception. First trimester abortions were made legal several years ago, but apparently women have to seek out clandestine abortions because authorities and health centers put up so many obstacles that they are in effect not available, though legal.

3. Interesting. I hope the health coverage isn't going to begin and end with pregnant women.
