Extensive Cell Phone Use Linked To Brain Tumors, Swedish Study
http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/healthnews.php?newsid=40764

According to a Swedish study, if you spend many years using your cell phone for at least an hour a day your risk of developing a brain tumor is 240% higher than a person who never uses one. The results of this study go against another recent one carried out in the UK and published in January, 2006, which indicated that cell phone use is safe for humans.

The researchers found that even the location of the tumor, for extensive cell phone users over many years, tends to be on the side of the head where the phone is used.

...................................

According to Kjell Mild, study leader, in an interview with the Reuters news agency, the best way to reduce the risk is to use hands-free.

1. I think the way that cell-phone users drive is proof enough that...
..the findings, in the study, are quite true.

2. If you need to talk, pull over and do it
I have been in 4 near-accidents this last year where the other driver was smooching the cell, and not paying attention. It is Totally Dangerous, even though it appears so innocent.

4. 4??
Only 4? You should drive around Hartford and the surrounding counties someday. I almost get killed at least once a week. One day I was almost killed 3 times on my way home from work in Hartford. Cell phones are the cause at least half of the time. It's crazy. I think it has eased a bit since CT passed the hands free law though.

3. This has been demonstrated in the past but,
the cell phone companies have been very successful in quashing it and/or putting up their own data which 'refutes' it.

Not unlike the methods employed by big Pharm when they want their products to continue to provide $$$.

5. 9.5% of the 950 patients that had the tumor were heavy cell phone users
and 'some' of the tumors were located on the side of the head where the phone is used.

5% of the tumors were actually located on that side of the head

Cell phone subscriptions in Sweden outnumber the Swedish population.

I'm not a doctor or a statistician, but that's like saying
that 950 have lung canceer....5% of them smoke cigarettes.....

I'm not advocating heavy cell phone use, but I don't think those statistics are alarming.

6. Poetic justice, perhaps???
I can't remember the last time I walked across the street (in a crosswalk, WITH a signal) to go to my bank at noon and DIDN'T almost get hit by a wild driver (usually in a black, expensive car and often an SUV) with a cell phone in one hand and the other barely on the steering wheel, and their mind a million miles away.

Literally a daily occurrence in this neighborhood.
