Mother-of-two Elin Andersson has highlighted staffing shortage problems at a maternity ward in Sundsvall in northern Sweden after she was asked to clean out her own hospital room just two days after giving birth by caesarean section.

I have a problem with this.

1. Sounds like one of those "be afraid of socialized medicine!"

5. Make what ever conclusion you wish....
I prefer people make informed choices. However if you are suggesting I'm anti healthcare, I freely admit I have reservations.

I'm a VA patient. I've been waiting 10 years for a hip replacement. So far, I've gotten a wheel chair and a little Vicodin when I beg enough. The only other care offered to me was methadone. I've been yelled at by my VA ARNP when I ask to see a doctor. All of this happened AFTER I was diagnosed was advanced arthritis in my hip and X-Rays proved it. They sent me to an outpatient clinic where the ARNP seems determined to prevent me from getting actual medical care. There is absolutely nothing preventing me from getting a hip. The doctors were willing to operate but then I was shuffled off to someone who simply refuses to forward my paperwork. They seem determined to drug me up and forget about me.

The last time I tried to talk to the ARNP, for blood in my urine, they gave me a drug test and when it came back negative, they ignored me. After three months of urinating something the color of Welches grape juice, they scoped me and told me they couldn't find a problem. I guess I'm just supposed to ignore it?

I've jumped thru all the hoops and get lots of promises, but after 10 years, I'm still waiting. If anything, it's gotten worse. I used to be able to call in and get prescriptions renewed. Now, I call them in and they get ignored. I can't count the number of times I've been promised a return call and haven't received one. Now I have to drive to the VA and get the patient advocate to make the calls for me. Based on my experience, if this is socialized medicine, American style, I wouldn't wish it on any of you.

Get a taste of the good and bad before making a commitment. We're all well aware of the perils of private health care, but we should walk into any new situation a little smarter than than before, otherwise, we're gonna get burned again.

If Universal Healthcare means better healthcare for me, Well, there is certainly room for improvement.

4. Free health care - you are free to take care of yourself

7. No healthcare is free too,
you're free to die without help.

The only difference between this and the US is that here the mother would be expected to clean her room on the way in if she wanted it sanitary.
