After all the sanctimonious demands from GWB and all of his bots that the Democrats in Congress allow an "up or down vote" on ALL of Bush's other judicial nominess, suddenly the Republicans have flip-flopped. Could it be that the Republicans are a bunch of hypocritical liars? Could it be that they really don't think the "up or down vote" is the only moral action, in spite of everything they said and implied earlier? "Oh, those evil Democrats. They won't even allow the Honorable _______ to have his/her day in Congress and receive the 'up or down vote' that they have so clearly deserve."
Here's an excellent question, if any of you happen to run into GWB on the street: "Why didn't you demand an up or down vote for Harriet Miers, like you did for all of your previous nominees?"
The Republicans will eventually rally around the talking point that she requested that her name be withdrawn in order to help preserve the President's attorney/client privleges. Bush will say that he really didn't want to accept her withdrawl, but he felt that the attorney/client privlege was SO important that he had to grudgingly accept it. Of course it's a lie, but that won't stop him.
