Sam Alito's new law clerk
Did the newest associate justice follow the common practice of selecting a law school grad? No -- he's taken someone working at Time Warner who used to be a close confidant of John Ashcroft and helped him work on defenses for the government's policy on detainees.

3. OMG
Most Sup Court clerks are just finishing a clerkship for a lower level federal judge or just graduated from a prestigious lawschool and was on Law Review.
Alito decided to pick someone politically connected. No wonder Bush wanted him.

5. Anyone would want it...
I think anyone at any age would like the opportunity to clerk for a Supreme Court justice. Coming from a judicial family background I don't think this is that big of a deal actually.

4. Quick! The sky is falling! The sky is falling! . . .
Oh. It's not? Geez. It sure sounds like it's falling. An Ashcroft *sskisser is hired as a "law clerk" to Alito? Can it get any worse? I mean ASHCROFT? The guy who could not and would not separate his own religion from his duties as Attorney General of the U.S.A. Couldn't stomach a nude statue of Justice in the lobby! Sick b*stard.

Now, America gets his law clerk too? I can hardly wait for some opinions authored by Alito! Hold on America!

BTW, there's a fairly good overview of the things expected of a law clerk who may have conflicts of interest while clerking . . . http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/02/14/AR2006021401811_pf.html (Washington Post article)
