FBI investigates whether Muslim man's shooting was a hate crime

A family from Uzbekistan is trying to figure out why their husband and father was shot Friday night as he tried to buy gasoline in the same neighborhood where they run a small carryout restaurant.

Fazliddin Yakubov remained in critical condition Tuesday at MetroHealth Medical Center after he was shot three times in the stomach at a gasoline station at East 76th Street and Superior Avenue. One son who was with him was not injured.

FBI Special Agent Scott Wilson said the bureau is investigating and looking at the possibility that it could be a hate crime.


Some members of Greater Cleveland's Muslim community are calling it a hate crime because five young men had been mocking the victim at the gas station while he was conversing with his son in their native Uzbek language...

what does this shooting have to do with religion again?

why is there never: Catholic (Baptist, Greek Orthodox, etc) man's family shocked by shooting, etc.

How incredibly sick. I'm guessing the punks who shot him don't even hold down jobs but they would harrass someone different than them who runs a business in their neighborhood. I understand that a lot of businesses in the inner city are run by Arabs, Muslims, etc., but if that bothers people who live there, do what these other ethnic groups do - form a business cooperative and pool your money to start a store, restaurant, etc. of your own. One person alone may not have the money to start a business, but an entire family working together (as is the case with many of these ethnic groups) may.

(Cleveland) – Cleveland Police are investigating the shooting of 49 year old Fazliddin Yakubov of Cleveland which occurred at the Superior Certified gas station at 7608 Superior on Friday, June 20 at approximately 11:50 p.m. Just prior to the shooting, several people can be seen in security camera video milling around the area. Police are trying to identify them for further investigation and are not calling them suspects.

This second video depicts the victim milling around the parking lot at the gas station before falling to the ground clutching his stomach, presumably after being shot. Police are asking anyone with information on this shooting or anyone who recognizes anyone in the video to call the 3rd District Detective Bureau at [phone].
