Houston Chronicle Patrick Carr of Houston barely recognizes the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which turns 100 today.
Back in his day, skilled agents were well-versed in Morse code and used their naked eye to match crime scene fingerprints. Today, digital technology allows fingerprint comparisons against the FBI's database within minutes.
"I'm obsolete at everything," Carr, 84, joked recently.
The FBI was founded in 1908 with 34 men assigned to chase down mobsters across state lines.
The bureau was the domain of men with law enforcement, military or Secret Service experience.
The Houston office opened in 1940 with a handful of agents.
