The hearing officer is expected to make a recommendation within a few days and the Commission will make their decision within 3 weeks.

The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa has arranged for Pelter to have a place to live, a teaching job and a position on the Council of Elders if he is paroled.

A US Attorney for North Dakota has called Peltier “an unrepentant, violent armed criminal who is a continuing danger to the public welfare.”

Peltier, who will soon be 65, is in poor health with diabetes, high blood pressure, a jaw problem and urinary system ailment.

Here is an American political prisoner who has been around for a long time. How we can turn a blind eye to the horror that we've put these people through is just beyond me. I guess when you tolerate something like this for 30+ years, it's easier to tolerate Abu Ghraib.
