I wrote a letter (e-mail) to the Christian Science Monitor in which I questioned why nobody in the media seems to be quoting Orrin Hatch's other "Ginsburg precedent" - that he suggested to Bill Clinton that Ruth Bader Ginsburg be the nominee.
I also included that Orrin Hatch did question her on her past during the confirmation hearings.
Now, I did find a reference for use if they question my assertion that Hatch suggested Ginsburg: Hatch's own AUTOBIOGRAPHY - "Square Peg: Confessions of a Citizen Senator", where he stated that Clinton nominated her at his (Hatch's) suggestion.
HOWEVER, I am having troubles getting the transcript of the nomination hearings. I did have some inkling of the questioning by Hatch as seen on THOMAS - the Congressional Record online.
Now, there's an interesting thing that I found in my search for the transcript.
I did a google search for "Ginsburg confirmation hearing transcript". Found a large number of RightWing sites that, almost unanimously verbatim, quoted the same explanation of a four-paragraph passage from the transcripts. BUT I DID NOT FIND A LINK TO THE TRANSCRIPTS. Not wanting to give the sites any extra hits, I selected a few to see if I could find a link. Do you know, none of them had a link? And you would expect that Google would have a link to it.
Is there any link to the transcripts to her confirmation?
If they decide to use my letter, and they decide to confirm my info, I would like to have the transcript available to show where he questioned her (on the Death Penalty and her time in the ACLU).
