American Indians Are Invisible To the White Man!
Edited on Thu Jun-14-07 08:27 AM by Bobbieo
Last Saturday, The New York Times ran a Page 1 story on Paris Hilton. Is she drunk” Is she in Jail? Does someone have a new video of her giving up? Is she wearing underwear?

Meanwhile, deeper in the newspaper, on Page 9 to be precise, there was a horrifying account about a suicide epidemic on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation in South Dakota, ....

1. Although I agree that America's media manages to ignore issues concerning Native Americans...
... Paris Hilton displaced a lot of important news.

2. Right, they'll focus on any out of control rich white girl
to avoid focusing on the disaster they helped bring to this country, the disaster in the White House.

I live in one of the few states that has regular reporting of tribal issues just because there are so many tribes here. Either they live exemplary lives or the reporting is still thin.

3. A couple of times, I have run into a radio segment called "Native News"
KANU out of Lawrence KS and another station in the West somewhere were running it. It was about 15 to 30 minutes, very specific to Native American issues. KANU was running it, I assume, because Haskell University is in Lawrence. Does this radio program still exist?

6. We have Native American Call In here, not sure where it originates
but it's about an hour and a half of call ins from tribes all over the country. We also have Singing Wire, a Sunday afternoon program of all tribal music and that one is on KUNM. They stream live over the web.

5. Senator Byron Dorgan D-ND has fought long & hard to raise

educational levels of Natives. He has worked to bring Federal funding to a particular college level school for the 3 affiliated Souix Tribes of the Dakotas. Located along the beautiful Missouri River in Bismarck,ND, it has become a center for allowing those who choose to receive training in a variety of fields, while maintaining their cultural history.
Shortly after GWB took office and the funds for such programs began disappearing, United Tribes Educational Technical Center (UTETC) was faced with the threat of closing due to GWB's horrendous money grab.
Senator Dorgan, working endlessly to secure the longevity of this school, was met with a stubborn Bush administration that saw no need for such enhancements to the Native future.

I believe it was during that time that a weary Senator Dorgan was approached by non other than Jack Abramoff.
Did Jack A become the "saviour" who suddenly appeared to the beleagured Senators and Congressmen who sought desperately to save programs in their States, with an offer of help via his association with Bush?
The school was saved, funds were restored, and Jack Abromoff capitolized, one way or another, on the misery lain at the feet of those who wished to sustain state programs threatened to be lost upon the greed of GWBush.

This is how Abromoff worked his magic.
Miserable excuse for a Bush "diplomat".

Have no link but I will see if I can find one.
I recall this event since I lived there at the time.

Not all "White Men" have forgotten the Native American people.
There were many other ethnicities within the Bush wormhole at the time who refused to step in and help Senator Dorgan with his fight.
