A family of Barack Obama supporters awakened this morning to find a burned 6-foot cross on the front lawn of their home in northern Warren County, police said.
The charred cross was partly wrapped with a homemade congratulatory banner that declared "President Obama Victory '08" and had been stolen from the lawn the night before, police said.

"Living in the 21st century, and we have to deal with this -- in America," said Gary Grewal, a native of India who lives with his wife and 8-year-old daughter on Millbrook Road in picturesque Hardwick Township.

State Police took the charred cross away in boxes to check for fingerprints or other evidence.

"We are treating it as a bias crime," said Lt. Gerald Lewis, a State Police spokesman.

1. A "bias crime"? Is that politically correct for "hate crime" now?

2. What kind of bullshit is this
somebody commits a crime and we have to soften the words up to somehow shame them less?

6. Well played!

"I'm your huckleberry ... but you are no daisy."

Kilmer's Doc Holiday was just so cool. But back to your point, which was also my point, we have to be ever ready to oppose this kind of evil crap. If all the decent, sane people stand together, the nut jobs will retreat into their dark corners to wimper their resentment, plot their futile schemes, and choke on their own bile.

The election of Barack Obama demonstrates the darkness has really been pushed back a bit. Quite a bit. But we need to push some more.

They hate us for our freedom. Really. They do. Screw 'em.

7. They're terrorists.
It's just that simple. They just have to be reminded that it's our Patriot Act now. They'll learn after enough of them just, disappear.

HARDWICK TWP. | Eight-year-old Arianna Grewal kept waking up the night after racists burned a cross on the little girl's front lawn in the dead of night.

The people responsible wrapped the cross in the pink bed sheet Arianna picked out to serve as the canvas for a message supporting the victory of President-elect Barack Obama.

She and her mother, Alina Grewal, hand-painted the sheet and her father, Gary Grewal, hung it up Tuesday, Election Day, on the front lawn.

The racists stole the banner Tuesday night and returned with it and the cross during the early morning hours Thursday. A rainstorm apparently extinguished the fire, and the wind knocked it to the ground, Alina Grewal said.

As news of the event spread, people began visiting the Grewals at their Millbrook Road home, sending them e-mails and calling them on the telephone. Alina described it as the response of a good community.

Unity march planned in response to cross-burning incident in Hardwick Township

This cross was found on the Grewal family's property.A unity march will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday in response to the cross-burning incident Thursday outside a Hardwick Township home.

The march will begin at the township municipal building at 40 Spring Valley Road and proceed to the Millbrook Road home of Alina and Gary Grewal. Alina Grewal said efforts are under way to line up speakers for a gathering outside her home.

Racists stole a banner celebrating President-elect Barack Obama's victory from the front lawn of the Grewal home on Election Day. They returned two days later with a cross wrapped in the banner and set it ablaze on the front lawn.

New Jersey State Police are investigating the incident and no arrests have been reported.

The march is being organized by local residents with the help of township Mayor Kevin Duffy.

12. I wrote this just now on BlueJersey.com

I was there, it was very cool, actually. Very beautiful country. The march went past a very old, historic church. I have to go back to get all the details. It was uphill. At one point a camera man for News 12 New Jersey screamed in frustration because it was uphill almost all the way. I offered to carry him on my shoulder. The anchorwoman, whomever she was, said she had to race up to talk to "the people". I told her that I'm "people", but they never wanted to talk to me. It's a shame. I have a lot to say.

I just wrote this to the one person who replied to my announcement on Latest Breaking News on DU last night:

After the speeches, there was a song. Everyone spontaneously got in a circle, including the Republican Politicians who were there - we don't have any Democratic politicians in this county.

I poured some water in the Grewal's driveway.

I told Mr. Grewal that it was bound to happen somewhere.

He said, if it had to happen somewhere, let it happen here, to me, or something like that.

He's a fighter. He said something about how "this is our town" when I left. I was being rushed so I didn't remember an exact quote.

Melvin M. Warren of the Warren/Sussex Chapter of the NAACP is, too.

Rick Gardner, the Republican Freeholder, will be talking to him, that's for sure. So will a number of people, like me.
