Age discrimination: What would you do if you saw 'recent college graduate' in an employement ad?
This is illegal. Should I call the offending company or simply let EEOC do its thing.

1. Guess that would depend on how it was used
"We will only hire a recent college graduate" = bad, "Great for a recent college graduate" = fine.

3. The listing states:
"We are looking for a recent college graduate"

and under requirements:

"Bachelors degree required
Recent College Graduate or 2-3 years experience in an administrative support role"

2. "recent college grad"
is usually code speak for "we don't pay shit, so don't expect much".

4. not these days
no one "expects much" these days, they just want a job. This is to discourage older workers to apply.

6. I'd like to see what they'd do if a 45-year-old woman came in and said
"I'm a recent college graduate. I quit school the first time to get married and have kids, but recently I went back and finished my degree. Here I am."

5. Actually, it's code for "entry level position that we have no illusions
about your making it a career. You're here for a couple years, will get no raises, and then you will leave. People with REAL experience need not waste your time, because we don't want to go through this again in four months when the economy picks up and you find something better. We aren't looking for experience - we are offering it."

7. Yeah, I'll buy that.
More precise than my definition. But you should also add "BTW, it doesn't pay shit".

9. I got a job offer email from an insurance company seeking women.
I was shocked because I thought that was illegal too.

10. Yes. It is if they will not hire a man. Only 'bona fide' job requirements, i.e., ....
modeling brassieres etc. which can only be done by someone with female breasts.

11. I've seen job ads before that said things like "this is a great company for women"
Which is okay but this one said "Seeking Women Applicants" in the headline. I'm sure they don't deny men jobs but I thought that was questionable.

12. Small business can be more discriminatory.
I think the rule is 15 or more employees before EEO kicks in. Up to that a small business owner can hire who s/he wants. A veterinary clinic I go to is all woman.
