Militia and “sovereign citizen” movement are making inroads within Six Nations communities, and possibly Anishnaabe and other Indian tribes as well. These groups spread bizarre New Age ideas from Afrocentrics, Black supremacist ideologies, Moorish Science, and other fake-Egyptian cults that undermine Native sovereignty, promoting distrust in actual American Indian legal claims, Native oral history traditions, and Six Nations elders.

1. This sounds like militia style COINTELPRO

I checked out your blog and have some experience in this area as I worked with a tribe in the northeast that was infiltrated by extreme right wing militants with fundamentalist backgrounds.

Native groups are susceptible to poseurs who claim to be wiling to help as well as to fringers who radiate towards new agey style support of Native communities partly out of support but also with no real understanding of Native culture or history.

This is really scary stuff.

I came to the conclusion that the extreme right uses infiltration with such talk of things like "sovran" rights and oushes guns and fake Christian ideology --- they expect and WANT race wars and thus enjoy the effort to create wacky cult style ops with Native people which will lead to their destruction.

I have seen it first hand and lost a Native activist friend in this struggle (I suspect murder but can not prove it).

With gambling and cigarets and tax issues at the forefront of many economic considerations for Native communities, the players can be really sketchy. But many Native folks will accept whatever help they can get and due to many many complicated factors they are reluctant to challenge people who are claiming to want to help and who "talk the talk" of sovereign rights and rejection of euro-centric politics and even reject the rational language of regular progressive political action in modern society: i.e the IDEA that all the government systems are LIES has merit but the fact is that you cannot avoid these systems by claiming their illegitimacy makes them something you can just ignore.

These people are agents-provocateurs leading Native people to genocide and lemming like suicide.

4. Yes, tons of hits. It is spread all over Googles 'militia - military' page.

At least the information is getting out to the public which was the idea for the story in the first place.

5. That is great. These new agey militant sorts mess up Native politics

wannabees or agent provocateurs.

Who the fundies are agents for remains mysterious at times, though: hate groups (often sort of millennialist aryan types) with violent or race war agendas.

The results are almost always tragic.

The progressive new agers are not nearly as bad unless they are idiots or egotists like the sweat lodge killer guru.

I saw a "medium" once claiming to be channeling the spirit of an ancient Native. When I asked her a few things in or involving Native language from the tribe she claimed to be from, she was clueless. She also said terrible and inaccurate things about the tribe. Pitiful, but a group of Euro-Americans had been eating it up.

Native folks here have really still got the worst of all oppression. Prisoners and slaves in their own land and nowhere to run or run home to while children and culture continue to be destroyed and the culture is attacked from every side except a small handful o traditional spiritual and political activists and wise people.

Nice meeting you - I have worked with the Native community for many many years and grew up with many my age from adolescence.

Unfortunatley now in the Northeast it is all about the bling and the slots. Murder and violence is on a scale which boggles the mind (usually about drugs) and the cultural values are dropping away while emulating capitalist WASP business culture and mores is pandemic.

I am not sure I quite get the connection to the "African" militants though they could be right wiog agents too. Or new agey militants.

Some of these groups are like the Moonies (maybe they ARE moonies) which attracts crazies which are tasked to join and disrupt movements for justice and peace.
