Former USDA Employee Shirley Sherrod will sue Breitbart
I read a story in the Associated Press about Shirley Sherrod announcing her intentions to sue the Right-wing blogger, Breitbart. It was posted on "The Slatest" on their web site Slate.com. I enjoy reading the comments listed after the story, some comical, some thought provoking, some informative and then there are those "talking point" comments. You know the ones, not adding anything new, basically parroting the view as heard on any of the right-wing media outlets of which there are tons.

Well, this one person kept posting the same thing over and over about how what Ms. Sherrod said was racist and that people didn't listen closely enough. Well after the third or forth time this person commented I finally had it and this is what I posted in response to her next to last entry "I keep saying this...I heard the speech...the whole speech, and as a modern black or white....it should offend you"

My response:

Martha, I have heard the whole speech and it is you that didn't get it. You are parroting talking points and not contributing anything new to the conversation, other than the same old tired talking point repeated ad nauseum. Repeating a lie will not change the fact that it is a lie. Race baiting is all the right has, because they have no answers to the majority of the problems they themselves created over the last eight years. Why? Because they want more of it, they want to go back to shedding 750,000 jobs a month, they want to go back to no financial regulations that caused the loss of all those jobs, they want to go back, period. So, they have nothing new to say, to add or to contribute.

When they say, repeal health care reforms, ask, what do you want to put in its place? When they say no financial reform, ask, how do you want to protect the average American? When they say no unemployment benefits, ask, how are they going to help create jobs?

Silence. That's all you will get with them, they have no new ideas, at least none that will help regular Americans. If you are a Multi-National corporation, well they have plenty of ideas, right down to apologizing to a major oil company for fouling the Gulf Coast and the coast line of at least five states. Oh, and the "small people" the fisherman, shrimpers, hotel owners, all they get is nothing from the right.

So Martha, you go right on parroting your talking points, because you have that right here in America. We'll be here for you when the right dumps on you and they will, that is a certainty. We will still be here for you, because we care about everyone, regardless of race, color, creed or orientation. Which, by the way, was the point of her speech.

2. Most landsharks I know expect nothing to come of this
Sherrod has said a lot of questionable things before and after the story broke. While one can sue anything for anybody in this country I would not expect it to see a court room.

3. But she may pursue in in the spirit of public service
or so I am hoping... ok projecting maybe. Look what they did to Mcgovern (D) WA. They sued him into oblivion over Newt's phone privacy, IIRC. I'd donate to Sherrod's attorney fund too if she goes after that propagandist.

4. I am sure any number of politically active lawyers would take it pro bono or for costs
Be interesting to see what comes of this in the long haul. I set a tickler to check back in 6 months
