This strikes me as bigoted
This is at a discussion forum I joined a few days ago but haven't posted at yet. It took me aback because some liberals there seem to find it amusing as well. Are we that far gone in this country?

I apologize in advance if I offend anyone.

1. I find it funny, because it means it's a trap for white Americans
No Mexican would be seen eating that thing; that's purely American food.

3. I think it's funny as hell.
And I say that as a fat, lapsed-Catholic Italian dude who laughs at fat, Catholic and Italian jokes too. :)

4. Bigoted yes
because it relates Mexicans to animals (that is an animal trap to catch the lower thinking creatures of the earth)
What if it was a piece of watter mellon instead of a Taco should black people be offended? I think they would.

10. Sort of what I thought
I am surprised that most here aren't upset by it. It's causing me to re-examine this.

11. Welcome to DU
But most of the folks here are not racist at all, but not everyone gets subtle racism and that it is why people use it. It is only important that we that do get it point it out when we see it.

5. Racist jokes
are often funny because they are edgy, and that's one of the reasons humor is funny. Taboo and all that.

This one is kinda dumb, though. I get the taco but I don't get what the box is. A trap, obviously? Kind of small to catch a person?

I hope you are joking.

Most people laugh along with racist jokes because they don't have the balls to call someone out on their bigotry and/or ignorance.

Sorry, I've never found any racist jokes funny.

And plays on culinary stereotypes.

7. It is funny!
One thing most folks forget is this, republicans don't have a sense of humor. And i have proof, just look at Dennis Miller. Ever since he went to the right side of things his career has dropped like a stone.

Progressive/liberals all have a great sense of humor, and can laugh at themselves without hesitation. And the taco trap is very american, and very funny. Btw, you would catch me every time with that trap.

Peace!

8. Without the dialog
surrounding this post on the other forum, it's impossible to know how this was ment to be taken. If it came along with a tage line that this is the Republican government's newest weapon against illegal boarder crossing, then it's BushCo's stupidity being played on, not the intended victims of the trap and it is, indeed, very, very funny.

13. The picture is funny
Edited on Thu Jun-01-06 09:37 PM by Lost-in-FL
now the title is another thing. I didn't though anything about it until I read the title. I think is a low blow. Think about this: similar picture with a $100 bill and a title "Evangelical priests finding device". It would make the Christian right fume.

it looks like something Sylvester the cat would use to catch Speedy Gonzales on looney Tunes.

15. Here's a thought
this might be deemed offensive to the much-maligned Border Patrol, as though they couldn't find a more effective way to catch people coming into the country illegally.

I think some people are being a wayyyyyyyyy too sensitive about this.

But not really funny.

Anyway, I'd eat the taco! And probably consider the entrapment a fair trade for a free taco, too :)

19. I think it's funny that LeftCoast Lynn is slapping you all in the face
and laughing all the while. She is posting all of these derogatory cartoons just to see what kind of goofy reponses she gets to them.

I think the joke is on all of the people who respond.
