Hack Attack Hits Wrong Target in BART Censorship Protest

Hacker group Anonymous tapped into the computer network of Bay Area Rapid Transit to protest the system's act of cutting power to wireless network cell towers along its route. The group then released the names, phone numbers and passwords of about 2,400 BART users.

On Sunday, Anonymous struck back with its hack attack. One problem: The real victim of the hack was not BART, but rather the people whose information was released. If their only crime was using a rapid transit system in a metropolis where parking places are as hard to find as a golden ticket in a Willy Wonka candy bar, Anonymous' action is hard to defend.

1. People outside the Bay do not understand that....

BART is not a luxury ride. For many people (like myself) who do not own cars, BART is the only way to travel between San Francisco and the rest of the Bay Area. Had the system been somehow shut down yesterday, I would have had to cancel my job interview. Someone will likely respond that it does not compare to the losses of life at Bayfair and Civic Center, and that's true. But harming others will not bring back anyone or undo anything. People also have the opportunity to air their grievances at the BART Board of Directors meetings, and I suggest they consider it in the future.

People like you are what people like Anonymous believe to be the problem.

You support BART by paying your fares and propping up the extremist BART regime.

Obviously, you'll have to find another way to get where you need to go.

We don't have a car and my job search often sends me to the East Bay and the Peninsula. Should I just look in San Francisco? Or should I prop up the oil industry and buy a car?

BART is a totalitarian regime bent on strangling the will of the people from their complex of subterranean bunkers.

It is designed to condition people to stop thinking about how they want to go from one place to another, and to accept a system of predetermined tracks and stations. This saps the will of the people to determine for themselves how to get from one place to another, and conditions them to be helpless to travel on their own.
