WHEN "ADVANTAGE" ISN'T
Private Medicare Advantage program
is costly and unfair. Now we can do something about it.

By Frank Kaiser

It sounded so, well, so "something-for-nothing, what-have-you-to-lose?"

The Medicare "Advantage" program would provide Carolyn and me with "more benefits than traditional Medicare, more predictable costs," even worldwide coverage.

"A smart investment in your health coverage," the salesman assured us.

But right off, our new Advantage HMO got our primary doctor's name wrong. A simple mistake, they said, easily corrected.

Yet, when I saw an "insurer approved" specialist, recommended by my "insurer approved" primary physician, our insurer wouldn't approve it. The phantom doctor whose name was on my insurance card hadn't authorized it.

1. Thanks for the link, Crew.
It was most informative. I'll be Medicare-eligible in a bit more than 2 years, and need this kind of information.

I have a letter going to get printed in Suddenly Senior.

I call for a consumer revolt against the pharmacy chains in order to overturn this Medicare Part D junk and place the drug benefit in part B making it a federal program and not a benefit in a privatized cage. I will have a small letter that people can email to the Republican party demanding a repeal of Medicare part D, placing the benefit in part B, and also passing HR 676 single payer universal health care.

People can already buy private medical insurance for drugs. The Republicans made sure that middle class retired and disabled people would get stuck with the private sector and not something better run by the government.

Medicare Part D does not help most of the middle class retired and disabled. It stinks.

F the Republicans.
