PUT A TOUCH OF CLASS INTO YOUR RETIREMENT

By Frank Kaiser

So many seniors tell me that college was one of the best times of their lives.

I agree. Perhaps that’s why I continue to find myself in class — usually at least one a semester — even at age 71. Of course, all those cute coeds don’t detract from the experience. And when they catch me staring, they generously dismiss it as an old man’s harmless antics.

College men, too, treat us fogies with respect, even deference. I’ve often been asked advice on life issues. How refreshing it is to be taken seriously by youngsters! We seldom get that from our grandchildren.

Most of all, I enjoy learning. Learning what I want to learn.

There’s great freedom in taking courses without worrying about grades, credits, or graduation. Learning something just for the sheer pleasure of it is a joy.

after 31 years as an elementary school administrator (22) and as an elementary school teacher (9). I've been teaching Early Childhood Education classes at the local community college for the last 3.5 years. My way of "giving back". I'm having a great time. Classes begin in 2 weeks.....looking forward to it.

You would think as an educator I would check my punctuation.....before I post....

4. Our university has waived tuition for anybody over age 60!
FOR RELEASE: Thursday, January 04, 2007
UA Tuition Waiver

Arkansans over 60 can enroll tuition free for classes this semester

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - It is never too late to join the Razorback family! Senior citizens are welcome on the University of Arkansas campus. They're so welcome, in fact, they may attend courses free of tuition, as is the case at any Arkansas public institution of higher education.

The University of Arkansas encourages residents who are 60 years of age or older to enroll in credit courses, tuition free, on a space-available basis. College courses engage older learners in challenging and intellectually stimulating programs, and the UA's "Senior Razorbacks" lend wisdom and experience to traditional students in the academic environment.

Senior citizens wishing to participate in the program will need to provide age verification, complete the Senior Citizen Tuition & Fee Waiver form, and apply for admission prior to the special registration period Jan. 12.

For more details about becoming a Senior Razorback, call the Office of Admissions at 1
