4. Ageism.
Diminishing a group of people.

I don't wear Depends.

I don't need a new hip joint.

I don't worry any more about BMs than you do.

I do know a great many experienced, intelligent, fascinating, energetic, committed, involved elders.

I don't post jokes stereotyping gays or people of color.

Elders should not be stereotyped or portrayed as weak, frail, or "hoping for a BM".

Gads.

6. Touchy much?
Why do you think there is something diminishing about being weak, frail, or having digestive irregularities? I'm all that and not yet 50, and it doesn't change my value as human being one bit, nor does it change the value of my parents, who are considerably more frail. But it does make for daily opportunities to have a good laugh at myself. The '77/'07 joke almost certainly originated with someone who has been throwing out calendars from the time Peter Max was plastered on their walls, just like the menopause jokes that get emailed me always--always!--come from women of a "certain age."
