Thank God I found this forum!
I'm turning 60 in less than a month and having major identity issues. Do I get a pair of the black lace up high oxfords with the little holes in them? Should I start wearing stockings rolled down and tied just so below the knee? Does anyone know where I can get those amazing small flower print dresses.

Guess it's time to grow the hair out and wear a long braid like my father's mother did.
i guess I can post some before and after photos....serious/

1. *snert*
I'm actually wearing a braid down my back at the moment.......well, when I don't have my hair twisted into some kind of hairdo. It's actually because I'm too cheap just this moment to spend $50.00 every six weeks to keep it in some kind of order.

Skip the small prints and the stockings, although I admit to a fondness for brown trousers and cowboy boots.

Each to his or her or its own choice, hien?

2. Hmmm. And
 I'm way ahead of you; I'm 52 and have already grown my hair out, though the braid isn't here yet.

3. LOL! My sister
when she was young, thought women were required to wear those things after a certain age.
When she got into her 60's I sent her one of those dresses (little print on that awful nylon fabric) I found at a 2nd hand store with instructions from the US Dept. of Appropriate Apparel. Henceforth she was not allowed to wear such and so and must now limit herself to the sensible shoes with Cuban heels, and all the rest.
Her daughter thought the dress was for real!
Sure glad times have changed!
I look at pics of my grandparents and they were not that much older than I am now but they looked really really old back then.

4. Heh.
I turned 60 last Saturday and got my ears re-pierced... have been wearing a braid for years and have been thinking of cutting it (myself!), but now having second thoughts after reading these posts! :D

5. I've always thought the world was going to be more fun...
...when the rock and roll generation entered its golden years. Nursing homes full of tie-dye, pony tails, peace symbols, surfers, hippies, dippies, dope-smokers, anarchists......yada yada. No more tiny curl poodle hair, no more Lawrence Welk.

7. Nothing wrong with a long braid.
That's what I have - down to my waist. I'll be 62 in a month. I feel about 30.

8. My hair is long, too...
To my waist. And silver. But I don't wear it in a braid. It's either loose or pinned up with one of those clippie things. I actually get a lot of compliments on my hair, and wouldn't dream of cutting it. I always thought the stereotype was that older women were supposed to cut their hair short. Oh, and I'm 54, gonna be 55 in a few months.

10. The braid thing was not a joke
When I was in my twenties, my hair was long-wore it in a braid actually. I cut it after I had my first child. Now it's dyed and I wear it in a bob. I'd love to go natural and grow it long again. I think a long braid is more flattering....when my mother cut my grandmothers braid off because she was bedridden and it was difficult to take care of...I was shocked. I think I must have been about eight years old and I can still see grandma sitting at the kitchen table and mom with that friggin' huge pair of shears cutting off that beautiful braid. (I think my eight year old brain must have exaggerated some of that memory)

Maybe I will do one of the glamour almost-nudie shots as a lark. I'm in better shape than many young women in their twenties and thirties.....oh don't get me started. Somehow seeing my birthday party invitation and "60" next to my name was kind of a shock.

Forget the sensible shoes, rolled support hose and flowered dress though. I still wear 3-4 inch heels and suits to work.

11. I turned 60 last month. Dropped a size in the jeans I wear and had eye surgery.
Don't have the glasses that I started wearing at age 40.
