Medigap insurance question
I'm in the period where I chose my medigap insurance, will turn 65 in 2 and a half months.
There is an agent who is trustworthy who wants to sign me up with
United World Life Ins. Co.
Mutual of Omaha

My questions:
Does anyone have experience with this company as a medigap provider?

Who is really happy with their insurance, and cares to share the name.

Thanks

1. Medigap insurance question
I am near Rochester, NY and have PREFERRED CARE GOLD. Many people in the area have a very good opinion of them, as do I, so far, anyway-- 6 months worth.. Their Preferred Care GOLD, for 'medigap', is the #1 rated by US News and World Report, as far as I can see. http://www.preferredcare.org/

2. I had BC/BS for a few years. When
they raised my cost to $155.00 per month I had to cancel.

5. Some comments
I'd stay away from Mutual of Omaha.

My husband has State Farm Medigap Insurance and it's been absolutely excellent. Through heart attack, arterial stent, colon surgery, and chemotherapy it's taken care of everything.

It's important to get signed up with a good company while you're still healthy. It can be harder after you've had any of the typical ageing diseases.

7. is it medigap you want?
Or an advantage plan?

Medigap policies are pretty easy to compare, as each plan is structured by the government to provide the same benefits and attributes. In other words, a Plan F Medigap policy will have the same attributes whether it is Mutual of Omaha or Blue Cross/Blue Shield or Kaiser Permanente providing it. The only consideration for you is price and your comfortableness with the company.

Are you sure this agent is selling you Medigap? They don't make as much money on Medigap as they do on Advantage plans that have limitations and exclusions and are vague and variable.

Some DUers have picked a plan F Medigap, because the coverage is pretty damned good. I follow the bills for my cousin, and have been pleased at her combination of Medigap F and BC/BS. Her share is really next to nothing, even for expensive ER visits and ambulance. The BC/BS is costing her $182/month.
