I just dumped United Healthcare.
"Healthcare executives are well paid but did you know the CEO of United Healthcare group has in his posession three quarters of a billion in unexercised stock options? If that isn't enough:

* his salary is $3.2million,
* lives in a $7.8 million, 9 bedroom house,
* a few years ago 1 in every 700 dollars expended on healthcare went to pay United Healthcare's CEO,
* during 2009, Stephen Hemsley earns $819,363.10 every day,
* UnitedHealth has spent over $12.6 million since 2007 to lobby against healthcare reform - this could cover the average healthcare cost of 992 families of four for one year"

I'm changing my Medicare supplemental policy (Plan 'F') to Mutual of Omaha.
The premium will be the same.
I don't know how much M. of O. CEO Dan Neary makes. It's a private company, not on the stock exchange.
I'm told that as a a 'mutual' insurance company that it's 'owned' by policyholders.

2. At leat almost all of his options are out of the money
Edited on Sun Oct-04-09 07:57 AM by exboyfil
Current share price $24.28. He has 300,000 shares at $23.81 (current profit from exercising $141K). His next group of options is 600,000 share at just over $40.00.

I guess the backdating he did was not as effective as he would have wanted. He kept his job after that crap. I wonder why I ever owned stock mutual funds.

CORRECTION: I see where the value of the unexercised options says $662M, but I am not sure that is a calculation of in the money or the exercise of all options (right to purchase at the values listed). He would not exercise options out of the money since he would lose money on the deal.

4. Hey, I just got a bill from them
Had my name and my address, and the name of a doctor 180 miles away, served at a hospital 250 miles away.

It also had someone else's medical billing information which I am dead certain was a violation of HIPAA to have sent to me.

I spent an hour calling to try and get this resolved, raised the possibility of fraud to several people I spoke with, and not a damn one was interested in chasing down any potential identity or billing fraud that led to them sending me the invoice.

As if it needs to be said, I am not insured by United Healthcare in the first place.

5. contact your state's attorney general - that should be an effective
outlet for discovering healthcare fraud.

MO's AG has been targeting healthcare fraud for some time now.
